Addis “Tad” Pittard Cates, Jr., 74, of Parkton, NC passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Duke University Hospital. Tad was born on October 20, 1938 to Addis P. Cates, Sr. and Esther Curtiss Cates of Faison, NC He graduated from North Duplin High School in 1957 and East Carolina University in 1963. He married Kathryn Brown from Mt. Olive, NC on December 26, 1962. Tad was co-owner of Addis Cates Company until his retirement in 2000. After retirement he assumed a second career as a Presbyterian Lay Minister and served the Philadelphus Presbyterian Church in Red Springs, NC. Tad is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Kevin Wolfe Cates of Parkton, NC, daughter Kimberly Cates Woollen and her husband Steven of Wake Forest, grandson Barrett Woollen, and brother Curtiss Cates and his wife Monica of Hope Mills. Tad was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dr. Brooks Cates of Burlington, a daughter Carmen Cates and a nephew Charles Cates. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Parkton Presbyterian Church. Family members will greet friends immediately afterwards in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, NC.
