Carl Francis Davis, 85, died Tuesday 8/7/2012 at home. He was born the third son of Norwood & Bertha Davis in a family of 8 children. He lived the majority of his life in Tobermory, Bladen County, NC, except for several years in the early 1950’s when he was involved in a timber business with his brothers in Colorado and New Mexico and during his service with the US Navy during WWII. He was self employed most of his life in farming, sawmilling and timber. He married Patricia Ann Cain on September 15, 1951. Preceding him in death are his parents; 3 brothers, William A., Rudolph, and Jake; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Siler and Shirley Townsend; and a nephew Thomas Davis. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; four sons, Franklin and his wife Marsha, Richard, Larry and his wife Linda and Herbert Thompson. He is, also, survived by two sisters, Estelle Bunnell and husband Daniel (Jabo) and Della Baxley and husband Auburn; grandchildren, Richard Davis, Jr., April Davis and Jessica Davis; great granddaughter, Kinsley Davis and a number of step grandchildren, Jonathan Gunther, Daniel Peavey and Ashley Wilcox; and a step great grandchild, Ava Durham; multiple nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was know from Massachusetts to Florida for his pork barbecue. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, brother, father and a loyal friend. He was known for his good works for members of his community and served as a role model for all those who knew him. Pallbearers are Kenny Hedgepeth, Wayne Townsend, Michael Townsend, Billy Siler, Kenneth Hollingsworth, Glen Willis and Rusty Patterson. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday 8/11/12 in Bladen Union Baptist Church with Rev. David Canady officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
