Carl Edward Ivey, 71, of St. Pauls, NC died Tuesday May 1, 2012, at his residence. A native of Robeson County, he was born July 1, 1940, to the late Obie Oliver and Lillie Barnes Ivey. A U.S. Army veteran, he served with the 101st Airborne and was Ranger qualified. He retired after 33 years as a lineman with Carolina Power and Light. Although Carl faced many health challenges in recent months, he always had a smile on his face and a love of God and of the people around him. He was a wonderful husband, remarkable father, and adoring grandfather. He is preceded in death by his son Jeffery Neil Ivey; sisters, Frankie Bass and Virginia Mishue; and a brother, Vernon Ivey. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Janice Ivey; sons, Brian Ivey and his wife Donna of Germany and Sheldon Ivey of the home; grandchildren, Lily, Jackson and Joseph; sister, Lucy Parker of Fairmont and a special sister-in-law Betty Ivey. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2012, from 6 PM-7PM at St. Pauls Community Church with a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 PM following the visitation, with Pastor Eddie Cox officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 2PM at the Cook-Barfield Family Cemetery on Tobacco Road, Orrum. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Pauls Community Church, PO Box 781, St. Pauls, NC 28384 or The American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Ave., #111, Wilmington, NC 28403, in lieu of flowers.
