Carole Smith Bennett, 80, of St. Pauls died Friday August 2, 2019. She was born in Giles, Virginia on August 17, 1938 to the late Lacy and Martha Rogers Smith. She was born in the mountains but grew up in Newport News. She was an avid reader, lover of books and enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel while smoking cigarettes. She really liked to travel, was a huge Elvis fan and never met a stranger, greeting everyone with open arms. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them. She was preceded in death by husbands, Glenn Gibson and Clarence Bennett; children, Judy Stephens and Myrtle Swann; brother, Roger Smith; and grandchildren, David and Sara. She is survived by children, Larry Gibson and his wife Alice of Raeford, NC, Sue Kessler and her husband Joel of Micco, FL, Sherrie Ann McBee and her husband Jimmy of St. Pauls, and Tommalee Davis and her husband Ras of Lumber Bridge; sister, Myrtle Burks and her husband Billy of Ft. Meyers, FL; grandchildren, Joey, Shawn, Shannon, Jason, Tiffany, Stacy, Jessica, Chris and Crystal; great grandchildren, Justin, Chloe, Gage, Gunnar, Ainsley, Tyler, Tanner, Nicole, Jasper, Timothy, Alyssa, Ally, Aiden, Ashtin, Hayden, Ryan, Emma, Jacob, Kaylie, Savannah, Hannah, Alannah, Kayden, Wyatt, and Layla. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday August 8, 2019 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls with a funeral service being held at 12:00 noon, also, at the funeral home with the Pastor Steve Johnson officiating.
