Colon Ammons, Jr.

Colon Joshua Ammons, Jr., 86, of Lumber Bridge, NC died July 9, 2011 at home.Mr. Ammons was a graduate of Red Springs High School and Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, NC. He was a WWII veteran having served with the US Army in the European Theater. He retired from the Postal Service and Medical Records Dept. at Ft. Bragg, NC. Mr. Ammons served Lumber Bridge Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member for many decades. He was member of the Lumber Bridge Volunteer Fire Dept. and Community Choir for many years and he served on the Lumber Bridge Town Board. He was a member of St. Pauls Masonic Lodge #474. Preceded in death by his parents, Colon and Amelia Powers Ammons and his brother Stephen F. Ammons, he is survived by his wife Frances (Peggy) Watts Ammons of the home, sister-in-law Mary Prevatt Ammons of Lumber Bridge, sister-in-law Susan (Ricky) Bartlett of Florence, SC, brother-in-law Oscar (Kay) Watts of Siler City, NC and brother-in-law Tony (Sandy) Watts of Eatonville, WA. and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls Tues. 7/12/11 from 6-8 PM and other times at 102 E. Main St., Lumber Bridge. A graveside service is scheduled for Wed. 7/13/11 at 11 AM at Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Revs. Gerald Tew and Stuart Smith officiating.
