Daniel Edward Walsh, 83, was born in Huron County, MI on January 1, 1940, to the late Edward James Walsh and Emily Joan (Bushey) Walsh. He departed this life peacefully on October 2, 2023, at Autumn Care of Raeford in Raeford, NC after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dementia.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his son, John Thaddeus Walsh, as well as his brothers, Paul Walsh, Thomas Walsh, and infant David Walsh.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen (Mulqueen) Walsh; his daughters, Suzanne W. Pompili (Vincent) and Mary E. Knadler; his daughter-in-law, Franzi Walsh; sister, Joanne Murphy (James); brother-in-law, Rev. John D. Mulqueen; and his four granddaughters, Emily Walsh, Amanda Walsh, Caroline Pompili and Maria Wagner (Patrick).
Daniel served in the United States Air Force as an Operating Room Technician from 1961 to 1965. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an educational and clinical psychologist where he provided services in a variety of capacities throughout Northeast Ohio. He was active for many years with the Youngstown Cursillo Movement. In his spare time, Daniel had a passion and talent for music and enjoyed playing a variety of musical instruments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church chapel in Geneva, Ohio. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to The Gentiva Hospice Foundation (https://www.gentivahs.com/about/donate/) or any charity which supports research and support to patients and families who are affected by all types of dementia in honor of the deceased.
