Donald "Shorty" Ward

Donald "Shorty" Kenneth Ward, 72, died Sunday February 27, 2011 at his home in Raeford, NC. He was born September 11, 1938 in Chadbourne, NC to the late Benjamin Franklin and Lucy Britt Ward. He was a truck driver and his son-in-law, Hugh Zimbelman, called him an entrepreneur. He his survived by daughters, Sharon Ward Zimbelman, Sandra Maynor and Donna Jones; sons, Donald Kenneth Ward, Jr. and Jason Kenneth Ward; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls, on Wednesday March  2, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be Thursday March 3, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home chapel, with the Reverend Sandy Schaller officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Pauls.

His children described Mr. Ward as a man who loved his grandbabies and great grandbabies and he loved  life and worked hard and tried to keep on working even though he could no longer do so. He would do anything to help anyone in need and had a heart of gold, in spite of being stubborn....that was just Shorty. His life consisted of trucking, junking and his family.  He was our friend and he was our Daddy.
