Dorothy Ann McCormick

Dorothy Ann McLean McCormick of Arbor Acres died July 25, 2011 at her home in Black Mountain. She was born in Lenoir on June 30, , 1921 to Dr. Augustus Alexander McLean, Jr. and Hallie Hall McLean, the fourth of seven children.  She graduated from Salem College in 1942 and earned a certificate in Dietary Science at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
She worked as a registered dietician at MCV Hospital and at Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Fayetteville where she met her husband of 47 years, William Neill McCormick, Sr., who was a patient there.
She was a resident of St. Pauls for most of her life, was a member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, and continued to work as a consulting dietician at various medical facilities until she retired at 85.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers Frederick Hall McLean, Augustus Alexander McLean III, William Speight McLean, and Joseph Davidson McLean ; and her sister Edith McLean Barden.
She is survived by her three sons, William Neill McCormick, Jr of Raleigh and children Kendall and Morgan, Mark McLean McCormick and wife Beth of Ankeny, IA and children Justin, Erin, and Brynn,  and Stuart Hall McCormick and wife Sara-Peyton of Winston-Salem and son Wait; her sister, Hallie McLean Parker and husband Jim of Chapel Hill; her brothers-in-law , Angus Alverson McCormick and wife Carolyn of Lumberton, James Malcolm McCormick and wife Anne of Flat Rock, Duncan Calvin McCormick of Raleigh; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine McCormick Houck of Lumberton, and Sarah McCormick Britt of St. Pauls.
Dot never met a stranger and will be remembered most for her enviable energy and spirit. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 30 th at 11:00 o’clock at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church in St. Pauls, NC.   The family will receive friends in the Church Assembly Hall from 9:00 until 10:30 am prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
