Effie Rose McMillan, 89, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 4, 2015. Rose is proceeded in death by her husband, CW4(Ret) Harry McMillan, her parents, David Brown Paxton McNeill and Elizabeth Mae McNeill, three sisters and a brother. Rose retired as Post Master of the Parkton, NC post office and became involved in various organizations in the community to include the Parkton Historical Foundation, The Parkton Garden Club and the Parkton Friendship Club and was a volunteer at Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton, NC. During her spare time Rose was an avid gardener. Rose was an Ordained Elder, served with the Women of Church and taught Sunday School as member of Parkton Presbyterian Church. She was awarded the title of Elder Emeritus. Rose is survived by a son, CSM(Ret) Al McMillan and wife Becky, daughter Rose Marie Nunnelee and husband Tuney, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Rose’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Parkton Presbyterian Church, E. David Parnell St., Parkton, NC with a private burial to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that the gift of a donation may be made to the Parkton Presbyterian Church, Parkton Emergency Medical Services, Inc. or a charity of your choosing.
