Ernest Sherrill

Ernest Leighton Sherrill, 62, of Fayetteville, NC was born October 24, 1959 in Miami, FL., to the late Charles F. Sherrill Sr. and Joan Phillips Sherrill and departed this life January 4, 2022 at his residence.

In addition to his father, Leighton was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda S. Butler; three nephews and several other extended family and friends.

Leighton leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his passing, his mother, Joan P. Sherrill; his daughter and only child, Ashley N. Sherrill; three grandchildren he adored, Willie Chason, III, Waylon Chason and Delana Chason; four brothers, Charles F. Sherrill, Jr., Colin Sherrill and wife, Dawn, Lauren Sherrill and wife, Sallie and Terrance Sherrill and wife Mary; two sisters, Beth Sherrill Radtke Newsome and husband Joe and Elaine Hulon; multiple nieces and nephews he loved as good as his own; along with a host of extended relatives and friends.

Leighton was a family man who believed in God and loved them both. His heart was golden and was always willing to help where he could. In high school, Leighton played varsity basketball “Go Tigers”. He loved racing especially NASCAR always pulling for Darrell Waltrip and then Jeff Gordan; he was a diehard Washington Redskins fan, he loved to fish anywhere especially the ocean, he loved setting nets and having fish fries and also Pig Pickn’s.

Leighton was a truck driver for 30 plus years, needless to say he loved having his CDL’s and especially loved Log trucks. Leighton will be missed and May he rest in the arms of the Lord.

Family will receive friends after the service on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the home of his brother, Lauren Sherrill.
