James 'Daniel' Billingsley, age 73, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House.
Born in Bladen County, NC, he was the son of the late Forrest E. and Gracie Dowless Billingsley.
He is survived by his sisters, Elgie Thomas and husband Gary of TN; Marquita Jones and husband Benner of Fayetteville; Judy Reep of Southport; Dale Sparks and husband Keith of Harmony; brother, Alvin Billingsley and his wife Frances of Fayetteville; 12 nieces and nephews and lots of cousins.
Daniel was a longtime member of Woodland Baptist Church and resided at the Regency Apartments.
Daniel was a carpenter and retired after 35 years from IL Long Construction of Winston-Salem where he helped build apartments, office complexes and post offices. Prior to that he worked for Broadwell Construction of Fayetteville and helped to build subdivisions there. He was a caring and loving brother and will be remembered by friends and family for his determined will and his giving heart.
Funeral Services will be held at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home at 319 West Broad Street, St. Pauls, NC 28384 on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with burial following in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Daniel's family extends gratitude: to his friends Cliff Durham, Lester Edwards and Terry Teague; to the staff and volunteers for their compassion, care and support at the Piedmont Dialysis Center, FMC Stroke and Palliative Care units and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House.
