Joe Nelson Loflin of St. Pauls, North Carolina went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 21, 1938 in Sampson County to the late Jesse and Myrtle Rich Loflin. Mr. Loflin was also predeceased by his sister Frances Loflin James and his brother Billy Rich Loflin. Mr. Loflin was a graduate of the Fayetteville High School Class of 1957 and a member of the 1956 Fayetteville High School State Championship Football Team. He attended East Carolina University. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather he lived a Christian life filled with compassionate concern for others. He was an active member of the St. Pauls Lions Club where he helped establish the John Walker Christmas Fund and he was also an active member of the St. Pauls Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Loflin was also an active member of St. Pauls Community Church where he was a charter member. He came to St. Pauls with Burlington Industries in 1965 and later owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store for six years before becoming St. Pauls Town Administrator in June of 1979. After his retirement in March of 2002 he worked as Interim Town Administrator in Maxton and St. Pauls. His retirement years were spent enjoying golf, gardening, yard work and Sunset Beach with his family. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of fifty years, Joy; daughters Beth Ward and her husband Danny, Virginia Anne Jackson and her husband Chuck, and Mary Margaret Hogan and her husband Tommy; his loving grandchildren Zach and Tyler Ward, Joy Grace Jackson, Nikki and Bradley Hogan and step-grandsons Mason and T.J. Hogan. He is also survived by an uncle, Colon Loflin of Accomac, VA, sister-in-law Barbara Loflin of Fuquay, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his St. Pauls Community Church family. The family will receive friends Friday January 7, 2011, 6:30-8:30 PM at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home in St. Pauls. Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM at St. Pauls Community Church, 350 S. Fifth St. (Highway 301), St. Pauls with Reverend Chris Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
