John Brigman

Retired Army Staff Sgt. John Carlton Brigman, 80, of Fayetteville, North Carolina died Saturday December 24, 2011 in the Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville. He was born February 9, 1931 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Arthur J. and Mildred McDonald Brigman. He served in the US Army during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars.In 1968 he was awarded the US Army Air Medal "for active participation in more than 25 aerial missions over hostile territory in support of counterinsurgency operations". Preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Jutta,  he is survived by his daughters, Ellen Smith of Pennsylvania, Wanda Gentry and Brenda Lee both of Texas; sisters Myrtle B. Furmage of Parkton and Shirley B. Turriff of Fayetteville; one grandchild, Josh Gentry and 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 A.M. Thursday December 29, 2011 at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls, with the Reverend Pat Hash officiating. Inurnment will follow in Green Springs Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors. Visitation is one hour before the service.  Arrangements by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls.
