John Odum

John Edward Odum, 87, of St. Pauls, died December 12, 2012 in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. Visitation will be Friday 12/14/2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday 12/15/2012 at St. Pauls First Baptist Church with the Reverend Pat Hash officiating. Burial will follow in Great Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born in Greensboro, NC January 19, 1925 to the late Rufus and Belle Odum. A graduate of St. Pauls High School, he served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and during the Korean War he was an Instructor at The Citadel in South Carolina. He retired as Vice-President of Sales for NC Natural Gas Corporation after 27 years. He enjoyed his five granddaughters, his beloved dog, Lucy, fishing, playing his guitar and, of course, “Raby”. Preceded in death by a sister, Minnie O. Taylor, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Raby Odum; sons, John Edward Odum, Jr., St. Pauls and Darrell H. Odum, Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Faye Odum McMillian, St. Marys, GA; grandchildren, Amanda L. Odum, Raleigh, Shawna Meyer, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sarah McMillian Aitkin, Japan, Laura McMillan Stephens and Kelly Warren, both of St. Marys; and 4 great grandchildren. The family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice or to St. Pauls First Baptist Church, 302 S. Second St., St. Pauls, NC 28384.
