Joseph Yates Allen, 93, of St. Pauls died Saturday December 4, 2010 in the North Carolina Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Fayetteville. Mr. Allen was one of eight children in the Joseph and Asa Gregory Allen family. He was a graduate of St. Pauls High School and North Carolina State University. Mr. Allen served in the European Operations of the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the EAME Campaign Medal (European-Africian-Middle Eastern Campaign). He was a well known farmer and business owner in Robeson County, NC. He was last employed at age 89 at the Farmers Exchange in St. Pauls. At the tme of his death he was the oldest continous member of the First Baptist Church of St. Pauls.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Collins Allen. He is survived by two sisters, Lina Nussbaum of Viriginia Beach, VA and Lucy Riddle of Gray's Creek, NC and several nieces, nephews, cousins. Additionally, Mr. Allen is survived by special friends, Linda and Larry McGougan of St. Pauls. A Visitation will be held Sunday December 5, 2010 at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Graveside Service scheduled for Monday December 6, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Great Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend David Canady officiating.
