Joseph Henry Edwards 84, of Saint Pauls North Carolina was born on November 28, 1937, in Hoke County to the late Henry H. and Mary (Seals) Edwards. He made his heavenly transition on Sunday February 27th, 2022, at UNC Health Southeastern.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by brothers Bruce Edwards, Vernon Edwards, Allen Edwards and James Edwards, sisters, Margaret Lee DeLuca, Shelby Jean Edwards, and Sara Kaye Edwards.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Ann, daughter Dawn E Clayton (Jarvis) of Lumber Bridge, son Henry (Tommy) Edwards (Vonda) of St. Pauls, brother Norman Edwards of Red Springs; sisters Doris McLean of St. Pauls, Mary Janet Lineberry of Graham, and Susan Faye Lowery of Rex; grandsons Joseph (LJ) Clayton (Chaqulla) of St. Pauls, Kyle Edwards of St. Pauls; a granddaughter Jada Clayton of Wilmington, a great grand-daughter Paisleigh Clayton of St. Pauls and host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Mr. Edwards was a textile worker who served in the maintenance department with Burlington Industries for 30 years. He also served as Assistant Chief with the St. Pauls City Fire Department for over 20 years until he retired. Mr. Edwards was an active member of Second Baptist Church in St. Pauls for almost 50 years and served in a variety of roles including Deacon Chairman, Trustee Chairman, and Sunday School Director. His hobbies included walking, working in his garden, “piddling” outside, and riding his bicycle everyday as weather permitted. He would often ride 16 to 20 miles per day. Mr.Edwards loved his family and took on the role as primary care giver to his wife Mary Ann for 18 years after she had her stroke.
Visitation will be Tuesday March 1st from 6:00 to 8:00pm at McNeill Legacy Funeral Home in St. Pauls. The funeral will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday March 2nd at Second Baptist Church in St. Paulswith Rev. Larry Wilkes officiating. The family will be receiving friends at other times at the home of Joseph and Mary Ann Edwards, 318 Burlington Drive, St Pauls, NC.
