Joseph Browne Evans, 100, of St. Pauls, died Tuesday July 12, 2016. He was born in Robeson County on April 8, 1916 to the late John Thompson Browne and Alfreda Pittard Evans. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater as a Bombardier in the US Army Air Corps. He retired as a teacher and principal having served several North Carolina schools, including Columbus and Carteret counties. J. Browne was a faithful life-long member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zora and a son, Joseph B. Evans, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Judith E. Gardner and her husband William; son, Stephen Evans; sister, Elizabeth Morgan; brother, William Evans; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be Thursday July 14, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls with a funeral service scheduled for Friday July 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church with Reverend Sue M. Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Pauls Presbyterian Church cemetery.
