Kathie Young

Kathie Faye Shepherd Young, 70, passed away Sept. 6, 2020 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Ricky Holloman.  Samantha was her mother’s companion on many work travels.  She carried her lovingly and tirelessly on her final journey home.  Kathie was born February 11, 1950 in Lumberton, NC to the late Herbert Shepherd and Blanche Hall Shepherd.  Kathie was a graduate of St. Pauls High School and Pembroke State University.

She worked for many years in the payroll department of Southeastern General Hospital before returning to school and earning her bachelor’s degree in computer science.  She retired from an IT consulting firm and her job there took her many places.  Her favorite place was Papua, New Guinea.   She enjoyed reading, sewing and embroidery.  She passed her love of reading to her children and shared many cherished embroidery and quilted pieces with her children and grandchildren.

Kathie was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy David Young, and granddaughter, Hannah Faye Holloman.

She is survived by two daughters:  Penny Hagens and husband, Andy; Samantha Holloman and husband, Ricky, all of St. Pauls; one son, Jason Young and wife, Shannon of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren:  Drew Hagens and wife, Kristen; Elizabeth Locklear; Ricky Holloman; Emily Hagens; Corey Locklear; Maggie Locklear and Abbey Gail Young; and six great-grandchildren:  Majestie Munn, Marlie Munn, Quentin Locklear, Mia Munn, Malia Munn and Cooper Hagens; and one sister:  Ann Jackson of St. Pauls.

A private, family service will be held in celebration of her life.
