Leroy Yates Byrd

MAYSVILLE - Leroy Yates Byrd, 75, was born May 14, 1946 in Robeson County, NC and died on January 28, 2022 at his residence in Onslow County.  A graveside service will be held at Tolarsville Baptist Church at 3pm Sunday, February 6th, 2022.  Rev. Richard Franklin will be presiding.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Lucius Byrd and Mary Clark Byrd, daughter Mary Byrd, brother Charles Byrd, and sisters Betty Powers, Ella Jones, and Ruth Russell.

Leroy is survived by his wife Christine Steadman Byrd, daughters Melody Byrd of Fredericksburg, VA, Alice Edge (husband Kevin) of Maysville, NC and one son, Lucius Byrd (wife Shellie) of Chinquapin, NC.  He is also survived by brothers Neil “Bud” Byrd of St. Pauls, NC, John Byrd of Elizabethtown, NC, Cecil Byrd of Fuquay-Varina, NC, sister Rosa Edge of Virginia Beach, VA, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Byrd was a veteran of the US Navy, was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 31 years, and retired from the maintenance department of Delco Moraine in Fredericksburg VA.  He retired to Topsail Island in the early 1990’s and remained in the area for the remainder of his life.
