Marian McGill Jackson of St. Pauls, NC, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC. Mrs. Jackson was born in Hoke County NC on October 15, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Dora Johnson McGill and Thomas Judson McGill. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan T. Jackson, her sister Sarah Johnson, brothers TJ McGill and Landon McGill, and her son-in-law Dr. John B. Rehder. Marian graduated from St. Pauls High School and earned her BA in education from Flora MacDonald College. She taught elementary school in St. Pauls for 25 years – teaching many of the town’s next generation of leaders. Always active in her church, she served as a Girls’ Auxiliary leader, Bible School leader, Sunday school teacher, choir member and mission leader - including playing piano for nursing home outreach. At the state level she served on the Baptist Women on Missions Board of Directors. At the international level she served with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board as a volunteer missionary to Kenya, Africa and to China. Marian was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary Educational Fraternity, the North Carolina Shell Club, and a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Big Marsh Volunteer Fire Department. Marian loved teaching, collecting shells, her mission work at home and abroad, and her family. She is survived by: daughter Judy Jackson Rehder of Knoxville, TN , daughter Gayle Jackson Roth and her husband Stu Roth of Kingwood, TX; Grandchildren- Karen Rehder of Knoxville, Ken Rehder and his wife Angie Rehder of Knoxville, Chris Roth and his wife Meredith Sadkin-Roth of Austin, TX, Kevin Roth and his wife Emily Roth of Kingwood TX; Great-grandchildren Allen and Emma Caroline Rehder, Ken’s children; Grant Roth, Kevin’s son; Teagan and Aston Roth, Chris’s children; brother Walter McGill and his wife Lou of California, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 26th at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in St. Pauls with Reverend Floyd Helms and Reverend Pat Hash officiating. Burial will follow in the Great Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday night, November 25th 2013, from 6-8 PM at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of St. Pauls for their 2014 Youth Mission trip to Honduras, 302 South 2nd Street, St. Pauls, NC 28384, or to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Carillon Assisted Living Center of Southport where Marian made her home for several years and to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick for their care and compassion.
