Marjorie Sumner was called home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2023, passing peacefully. She was 90 years old.
She married Ernest Sumner in 1949 and raised two children and was totally dedicated to the varied aspects of their lives.
A longtime resident of St Pauls, she was born in July 1932 to Archie and Ruth Inman. She was the youngest of the family and known as a caring and loving individual that was loved by all those that knew and met her. She moved with her husband to Ormond Beach, Florida in September 2020.
She was a staunch supporter of the military, standing by her husband, a 23-year U.S. Army veteran, often “holding down the fort” while his duties took him around the world. In addition to raising two boys, she spent many years as a secretary and bookkeeper, holding positions at the First Baptist Church, Power’s Furniture Company, and the St Pauls School System.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Ruth Inman; sister, Alice Layton; brothers, Angus and Neville Inman; and her husband.
She is survived by her childhood friend, Margaret Thomas, Sister-in-law, Vivian Inman, her children, Jim and Don Sumner, five grandchildren Lauren, James, Mark, David and Jason, five great-grandchildren Christopher, Olivia, Owen, Marie and Jason Jr.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McNeill Legacy Funeral Home in St Pauls. Funeral services will held at McNeill Legacy Funeral Home on Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m., followed by burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
