Mona Evans

Mona Lee Harris Evans, 84, a resident of Scotia Village in Laurinburg and formerly of St. Pauls, passed away on January 17, 2021 at Scotland Memorial Hospital. She graduated from St. Pauls High School and Louisburg College. An active member of the St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, she was a past deacon and was awarded with a Presbyterian Women’s Lifetime Membership for her service. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was an avid gardener and supported her family in countless ways.

She was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Cecil Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Sam Evans, Sr. as well as her siblings, Jean Carol Harris, Roger Harris and William Harris; nephew, Lee Salter; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Evans Dawkins.

Mona is survived by her son, Dr. Sam Evans, Jr. and wife Jeanette of Fairmont, son, David Evans and wife Gloria of St. Pauls and daughter, Laura Hertweck and husband Dr. Don Hertweck; seven grandchildren, Dr. Anna Keene and husband Chris, Brad Evans, Matt Evans, Meredith Williams and husband Will, Holly Evans, Graham Hertweck and Caroline Hertweck; two great grandchildren, Connor Keene and Skylar Keene; sister, Kay Salter and husband Leon Norman; brother, Paul Harris and wife Sue; sister-in-law, Rita Harris; as well as many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Scotia Village and Patricia Lester for their friendship and care.

A private burial will take place.

In lieu of flowers and food, the family would appreciate memorials being sent to the St. Pauls Presbyterian Church.
