Richard Kenneth Davis
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Richard Kenneth Davis, our loving and devoted father and grandfather.
After an extended illness, daddy left us to go be with our mom. He told us a number of times, since her passing three years ago that he just wanted to go be with her. Both of his girls, Kim and DeeDee and most importantly, Poole was with him until the end.
Daddy was born at Ft. Bragg, NC and was the oldest of five children born to Lillian and Farrell Davis. He was the also first grandchild on his mother’s side and we are convinced that is the reason he always had to be the center of attention.
Momma and daddy were married for 57 years, and they raised us to value family, education, and hard work. It was especially important to him that his children and grandchildren respect and treat everyone equally and to always use our manners.
At the age of seventeen daddy joined the navy and fought during Vietnam. He completed his service as a member of the Saint Pauls National Guard. He was a devoted member of the VFW and felt that it was important to be a part of the Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day celebrations in Saint Pauls. He had a lengthy career with Bell South and was able to comfortably retire after 30 years. He continued his community support by joining the Mason’s and Shriner’s early in his life and enjoyed all aspects of helping the community when possible.
You would never meet a more opinionated and hardheaded man, but at the same time he would give everything he had to anyone who needed it.
Daddy had a unique ability to make you feel special. He never encountered a woman he didn’t compliment and was a pro at making her blush. We always told him that would get him in trouble one day. He loved to tell stories, and although he often added an embellishment for effect, he could entertain you for hours. We were amazed that he could fall asleep at the drop of a hat but still hear every word said in the room and often join in to a conversation as though he had been awake the entire time.
Our mom, Carolyn Thompson Davis and grandson, Davis Turner, preceded him in death. Additionally, his brother Micheal and sister Carolyn.
In addition to his two daughters, Kim and DeeDee, he leaves behind two sons-in-laws, Mark Ward, and Robert Turner. He also leaves behind the real loves of his life, his grandchildren. The ones, that in his eyes were perfect and could do no wrong, Joshua, Phillip, and Emily. He spoiled them all rotten and would not have had it any other way. He also leaves behind two sisters, Ingrid and Debbie.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Friday, April 18, 2025, beginning at 1:00 pm.
