Robert Parnell, Sr.

Robert Earl Parnell, Sr. died March 7, 2017 at the Stewart Health Center of the Cypress in Charlotte, NC. He was born in Parkton, NC on August 15, 1923 and was the son of the late JQ and Clelia Parnell. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy and served in the US Army in France during WWII. Mr. Parnell owned and operated numerous businesses. However, he was first, last and always a farmer. Mr. Parnell was a life-long member of Parkton Baptist Church. It was always at the center of his family’s foundation. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Josie Hall Parnell; daughters, Cynthia Alexandria, Charlotte, NC and Martha Nance, Thompson Station, TN; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Parnell was preceded in death by his sons, Robert Earl Parnell, Jr. and Joel Hall Parnell, Parkton and sister, Mary Leigh Watson, Parkton and brothers, James Q. Parnell, Virginia Beach, VA and David R. Parnell, Raleigh, NC. A visitation will be held at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home in St. Pauls, NC on Friday evening March 10, 2017 from 6:00-8:00. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday March 11, 2017 at Parkton Cemetery. Arrangements by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.
