Samuel Evans, Sr.

Samuel G. Evans, Sr., 76, a life-long resident of St. Pauls, NC died Monday March 5, 2012. He graduated from St. Pauls High School and Chowan College. After college he served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and then began a 48 year career as a Nationwide Insurance agent until his retirement in 2006. Over the years he was active in the St. Pauls Jaycees, St. Pauls Tree Committee and was on the St. Pauls School Board. He served as an elder in the St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John F. Evans. Preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Dawkins, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mona Harris Evans; sons, Dr. Sam Evans, Jr. and wife Jeanette of Fairmont and David Evans and wife Gloria of St. Pauls; daughter, Laura Hertweck and husband Dr. Don Hertweck of Greensboro; and seven grandchildren, Dr. Anna Keene and husband Chris, Brad Evans, Matt Evans, Meredith Evans, Holly Evans, Graham Hertweck and Caroline Hertweck, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday March 7, 2012 at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday March 8, 2012 at 1:00 PM at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. The family would appreciate memorials to St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, PO Box 283, St. Pauls, Nc 28384 or the charity of one’s choice, in lieu of flowers.
