Tar Heel - Sarah Emily Myers Averitte, 91, of Tar Heel, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Mrs. Averitte was born July 31, 1926 in Tar Heel, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick Henry Myers and Mary Eliza Robeson Myers; her husband, Eugene Franklin Averitte; her sister Minnie Elizabeth Myers Canady; and brothers Patrick Henry Myers, Jr. and James Robeson Myers. She was a life-long member of Beth Car Presbyterian Church and enjoyed serving on various committees in the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Battle of Elizabethtown Chapter; National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, North Carolina Society Colonial Dames XVII Century; and the National Society Daughters and Founders and Patriots of America, North Carolina Chapter. Mrs. Averitte is survived by her daughters, Sarah Cain of North Myrtle Beach, Patricia Council (George) of White Oak, Marie Cash (Brian) of Tar Heel, and Sallie Alexander of North Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Gerald Cain, Jr., Franklin Council (Emily), Alexander Council (Annie), Richard Alexander (Melissa), and Sarah Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Alexander, Max Council, Finley Council and Cameron Privett. A visitation will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, 319 West Broad Street, St. Pauls, NC. Funeral Service will be held at Beth Car Presbyterian Church, NC 87 West, Tar Heel, NC Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. David Holloway and the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Beth Car Presbyterian Church, PO Box 6, Tar Heel, NC 28392, or Wesley Pines Retirement Community, 1000 Wesley Pines Rd., Lumberton, NC 28358.
