Wilbur Willoughby, 89, of St. Pauls, North Carolina died Thursday March 19, 2015 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, NC. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday March 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church, 302 S. Second Street, St. Pauls, NC with the Reverend Dr. Pat Hash officiating. Entombment will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Fayetteville. He was born in Fairmont, Robeson County, NC June 29, 1925 to the late William Franklin and and Mary Bass Willoughby. He was a Dispatcher with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the Army of the United States. He received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars. He participated in the Central European Campaign, Rhineland Campaign and the Northern France Campaign, where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. In March of 1985 he was raised to the Master Mason degree in Shallotte Masonic Lodge 727. He is survived by his wife, Lalon Willoughby; children, Kaye, William, and Beth; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brothers, Furman Willoughby of Lumberton and Braxton Willoughby of Red Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
