William K. Powers, 79, of Parkton, North Carolina died Friday,
July 8
, 2011, in his residence.
He was born in Parkton, Nov. 26, 1931, to the late Crum Conner and Allie Blount Powers. He retired as a 1st Sgt. from the North Carolina National Guard, and after 40 years he retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co. He then worked for Food Lion for 12 years. He was a member of Parkton Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, clerk of session, board of trustees and president of the corporation. In 1981, he was named Elder Emeritus. He served on the Parkton Town Board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ruritan Club and a volunteer fireman. He was preceded in death by his brother, C.C. Powers Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Mitchell Powers; daughters, Pam Sealey, Sandy Jackson and her husband, Nelson, and Kelly Skinner and her husband, Jim; sisters, Charlotte Eddinger, Emma Lee Baker and Zula Wood; brother, Henry Powers; grandchildren, Robert Sealey, Matthew Jackson, Crawford Skinner, Samatha Skinner and Haley Skinner; and a great-grandson, Brandon Sealey.
A visitation will be at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home in St. Pauls Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday,
July 11
, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Parkton Presbyterian Church in Parkton, with the Rev. David Hudson officiating.
